Living Waters

The residents of Budaburam Camp in Ghana have the same need for fresh running water that you and I do. For years, the residents of the camp have relied on water vendors to bring large truckloads of water from a nearby lake and make that water available. There’s a stream that sometimes runs through the area, too, but the sanitary conditions of that water source are not reliable. Delilah took notice of the problem with a lack of fresh potable water immediately upon her first visit in May 2004. Since then, through Point Hope and World Vision, she has contributed more than $250,000 to find a solution to the lack of fresh water. Wells were dug with little success. Additional land was purchased with the hope of a water well discovery, to no avail. Water was finally discovered but its salt-content made it impossible to drink, bathe or cook with. Finally, Point Hope oversaw the construction of a Water Tower, a Pumping Station and underground pipes to tie in with the Ghana Water Company. In May 2008, the first regular flow of water from this utility is now available to a portion of the residents of Budaburham.

Four years after determining the need, there is a solution. More monies are needed to install more pipes and Fetching Stations and to insure the continual delivery of water and to establish a guarantee that the water will be paid for. Residents of Budaburam pay the lowest possible price for water. Point Hope wishes to make the water available to as many people in need of it.
